Small Business Saturday - 2nd December 2017

What is Small Business Saturday UK?

Small Business Saturday 2017 logo

Small Business Saturday is a non-commercial campaign to highlight small business success and encourage consumers to 'shop local' and support small businesses in their communities.

Originally devised in the USA in 2010, the campaign has seen great success so far, with small businesses reporting increased footfall and takings on the day. The initiative was introduced to the UK for the first time last year, and received a very positive response from both businesses and customers.

The day itself takes place on the first Saturday in December, but aims to have a lasting impact on the High Street as consumers are introduced to new, local businesses.  Small Business Saturday is a celebration of small, independent shops and services, and we think it is a great way of helping to raise the profile of all the fantastic small businesses we have right on our doorstep.

I have a small business, how can I get involved?

If you run a small business in Mendip and want to get involved with Small Business Saturday UK, you can register your interest with the Council for free by emailing your name, business name, description of your business and address/contact details to kelly.knight@mendip.gov.uk.  You can also register your interest and any plans you have via Small Business Saturday UKwhere you can sign up for free promotional materials and list your event which will be published on their website.  Encouraging residents to 'keep it local' and use small businesses in their local area could increase your customer numbers and takings, on Small Business Saturday or in the future.

I want to support my local businesses, how can I get involved?

By 'shopping local' on Saturday 2nd December and visiting any of the events on the 'What's going on?' page.
